Through the Eye of the Reindeer

Through The Eye of a Reindeer

What an invitation into the wild, to see the world through the eyes of a reindeer. To see through their eyes is the story about a rather special hag stone. It’s is a rather magical stone, which told me it’s intriguing tale.

Reindeer eye hag stone

The great eye of the stone was formed many thousands of years ago, yet this tale is set in its relatively recent history – a mere yesterday of 14,000 years ago.  It was worn around the neck of a wise woman. She practiced the ways of being with the reindeer. She was the one who ran with the herd and saw the luminous trails of their ancient migratory paths sparkle and shimmer in the land where there was no path to the discernible eye.

She wore this stone around her neck and when in trance, swaying to the heartbeat of the drum she would look through the stone and find the herd. Then she would shape shift, feeling her hooves touch the earth run and stretching her legs she would run, run with the herd. She would interpret their movements into answers she needed for her people. How to cure this, what plant for that, what solution to this – this is how she gained her answers. As the female reindeer led her herd this wise woman led her people.

She Who Runs With the Herds

Here lies an ancient invitation here to work with this stone and to view the world through it’s eye under a dark and a full moon – what stories and insights she might whisper…..

Celtic Soul Prayer Beads

soul-beads
I’ve always felt the steady rhythm of beads moving through your fingers comforting. When growing up I would have a collection of ‘borrowed’ rosary beads although that faith never quite fitted. Then there was mala’s journeyed with a mantra – but then that was also a borrowed from a different faith. While I am vaguely familiar with the Celtic Paidirinean that’s also a little out of reach. So I decided to combine my love of beads with figures from my tradition to create Celtic Soul Craft Prayer Beads inspired by my tradition stretching back through generations of wise women, of women who knew the thresholds of life and death, women who carried the stream of their ancestors voices. These women are shaman, weavers, singers and part of the same circle culture that I am of. They are women versed in herbalism, stone medicine and doll making, ritual and ceremony and dancers between the worlds.

How to Use Celtic Soul Prayer Beads

These beads have eight sections corresponding to the eight holydays of the Wheel of the Year. there are five beads for each position of the wheel with a dividing bead as you cross to the next festival.
The beads begin with the pendant which sets the tone and the insight for the theme, followed by three beads which representing the three main stages of a woman’s life or the power of the triple Goddess (such as the Goddess Brighid for example – a triad made up of Brighid and her two sisters also called Brighid).

Next is the largest bead in the prayer circle the Mystery bead – which invites us to consider the mystery that exists in all things and is the source of everything – before moving around the beads in a sun-wise direction. You may follow the beads with your own mantra or use them as a comfort when holding a thought or no thought in meditation as your fingers move you through the Wheel of the Year.
Full details of options of how to work with the bead are included inviting you to find a way that is most suited to your personal needs.

Eilean is from the West coast of Scotland, on a small island that looks out west to the vast Atlantic. She is a wise woman – a midwife, herbalist and healer to her people – bringing new life into this world but also helping folks make the journey back to the otherworld at the end of their lives.

Eilean (pronounced ee-lain) is inspired by the women folk of the Isles of western Scotland. Eilean means island, or body surrounded by water. She wears a mohair shawl and scarf which fastens by a silver clasp. She walks the shoreline every day, gathering seaweed, small tufts of lichen for dying as well as small crabs and other edibles.

Inspiration
Her role is to inspire, be a focus of connection to the wise women and healers in our distant lineage. She can sit in a special place or adorn an altar, her basket could hold a small scroll of paper – a prayer or request, offering or gratitude.
